My second approach to Nate, a character I had made for my animation portfolio, and character in my story.
My first drawn Nate from my animation portfolio.... makes me want to cry, figuring it was one of the more crappy designs i'd done I knew I owed it to him to start with his design first.
blocked out his head in zbrush to see how it would look through a more realistic lense.
side shot.
My initial stab at the new Nate, too clean looking, clothes too nice, too far from his points on the inspiration board.
Before I buckle down for the long haul I want to nail down the pose, basics, and general structure.
first take, me no likey.
second take, getting there.
third take I feel confident enough here to really start, like the attitude, like the balance, it feels very Nate-ish.
I angle the costume more towards the mountain man aesthetic I had collected.
drew in the face, noice.
aaaand finally spent a whole day on the lineart of it all.
after completion of the line art I reviewed what was working and what wasn't, I can never seem to spell silhouette right the first time, like honestly who made that word it's impossible.
Here's nate after all the adjustments mentioned in the picture before
